What is a Clinical Health Psychologist?                

A Clinical Health Psychologist is a doctoral level mental health professional, with specialized training in the inter-relationships among the behavioral, emotional, cognitive, social and biological components of health and disease. These specialists go beyond traditional counseling models to incorporate biological and behavioral science to assist patients maintain healthy lifestyles as well as manage chronic illnesses, avoid preventable diseases, and provide rehabilitative counseling services to people with injuries, disabilities, and chronic diseases. Examples include insomnia treatment, coping with cancer and cancer treatments, or managing chronic pain and depression. Clinicians often work closely with physicians to participate in a patient’s care. Services may include cognitive behavioral therapy, relaxation training, mental health counseling, or other forms of psychotherapy.
